Becoming a Writer

I never seriously thought about writing while living on my small ten acre farm. From the time I got home from work until the sun went down I was in the back yard with the animals. The neighborhood children were always stopping by to help and to enjoy the animals. I never gave a thought to the idea that my life on the farm might one day end; but it did. Leaving the farm was a very sad time in my life but I did have all the memories to take with me. It was a friend that suggested that I write stories about my adventures with the animals. I could then share those memories with lots of children.

My great neice, six year old Chloe, loved hearing stories about the animals. Her favorite was the story about little black chicken. When Room For One More was published, I gave Chloe and her twin brother, Nick, a copy. I recall Chloe running out the door to show her book to her friends and telling them "I knew this story before it was on the pages of the book!" :)

My writing had to be put aside for awhile. I have, however, started writing again and have been working on a tween book. Recently my great, great nephew, four year old Malachi, ask if I would "make" him another book. I did just that and submitted it to my publisher, LSP Digital. It was accepted and will be out after the first of the year. I also have three other works in progress.

Writing childrens books has been the most enjoyable endeavor I have ever take on. Becoming a published author? Well, that's like icing on the cake. Life is good!

Do you ever stop and have a real conversation with a child? Try it. Ithink you will be amazed at what they have to say.........and it's very entertaining. :) Many people talk to kids but don't really take the time to listen to what they have to say. So sad. I have learned so much about kids just by listening to what they have to say.
